Online EMDR Therapy in California | Trauma Therapy for Adults

🌿 EMDR Therapy for Trauma (Online in California)

If you feel stuck in painful memories, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions, you’re not alone—and healing is possible.

I offer EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for adults across California through secure online sessions. EMDR is a highly effective, research-backed approach that helps your brain process and release distress from past experiences—so they no longer feel as intense or disruptive in your daily life.

🧠 What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR therapy is designed to help your brain reprocess traumatic or distressing experiences that may feel “stuck.”

When something overwhelming happens, your brain doesn’t always fully process it. Instead, the memory can get stored in a way that keeps it feeling current—triggering anxiety, emotional distress, or negative beliefs about yourself.

EMDR helps your brain:

  • Process these memories in a safe, structured way

  • Reduce the emotional intensity connected to them

  • Replace negative beliefs (like “I’m not safe” or “I’m not good enough”) with more adaptive, grounded ones

Many people find that after EMDR, memories feel less vivid, less emotional, and less intrusive.

🔄 How EMDR Works

EMDR uses something called bilateral stimulation—usually guided eye movements, tapping, or audio tones that move back and forth.

During a session, you’ll briefly focus on a memory while also engaging in this bilateral stimulation. This helps your brain process the memory in a new way, similar to how the brain naturally processes experiences during REM sleep.

You are always in control during the process. You won’t be forced to share anything you’re not ready to, and we move at a pace that feels safe for you.

💻 What to Expect

In an Online EMDR Session

Online EMDR is just as effective as in-person therapy and can be done comfortably from your own space.

Here’s what the process typically looks like:

1. Getting to know you
We’ll start by talking about your goals, history, and what’s been feeling difficult. This helps us decide if EMDR is the right fit and create a plan tailored to you.

2. Building coping skills
Before processing any difficult memories, we’ll develop tools to help you feel grounded and safe (like calming techniques and resourcing). This is an important step.

3. Identifying targets
We’ll choose specific memories, experiences, or themes to focus on—always collaboratively.

4. Processing with EMDR
You’ll bring a memory to mind while following bilateral stimulation (like eye movements on your screen).
After each set, you’ll briefly notice what comes up—thoughts, emotions, or body sensations.

There’s no “right” way to do this—your brain leads the process.

5. Closing the session
We always end by helping you feel grounded and stable before logging off. You won’t be left feeling overwhelmed at the end of a session.
